LA CASA CORTEZA / MAL PAIS / COSTA RICA

Enjoy our artisan, tree house inspired home perched perfectly over the canopy of Mal País with a 180 degree ocean and jungle view that goes from Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve to the Santa Teresa beaches and mountains of Playa Coyote.

Located in the heart of peaceful Mal Pais, we are just a few minutes walk to restaurants, mini market, beaches, local surf school and tide pools, and a 10 minute drive to the world famous surf spots of Santa Teresa and all of its bustling restaurants and shops.

THE SPACE

Furnished with all local, custom made furniture, tiles and art, this newly built home was a vision brought to life by the hard working residents of Mal PaÍs. Many hands have created this beautiful space whom we call our friends and family.

We have two en suite bedrooms with ocean view and a third bedroom with jungle view. The top floor has an open floor plan with sliding glass doors and canvas blinds that can be opened to enjoy the 180 degree view and ocean breeze. Plenty of seating to sit and watch parrots and hawks flying by, monkeys swinging in the trees, iguanas relaxing on the branches, whale spouts in the distance and white wash on the beaches. It is truly magical here.

The ocean breeze helps keep the house cool most of the day, but each room is also equipped with ceiling fans and the king bedroom has A/C if needed.

ETC.

We are built on a hillside so we recommend an ATV or 4×4 during your stay. There are steps leading up to the house as well as a staircase inside the home so be sure guests are physically able to climb stairs. If you cannot climb stairs and want to stay then let us know so we can arrange some help to get you situated and arrange deliveries. It is a lovely house to spend time in with an ever changing view of the ocean, and the local animals including howler and white faced monkeys who visit the trees near our house often.

Other house visitors may include ants, mosquitos, wasps, beetles, crabs and bats to name a few. Costa Rica is on the edge of the Amazon rainforest so we try live in harmony with the nature around us. We recommend not leaving any food out and cleaning all dishes, utensils and counters to minimize the ants and other opportunists and shutting all sliding doors and windows at dusk.

It’s also important to note that houses in Costa Rica have septic systems, so all paper products, including toilet paper, should not be flushed, but placed in the trash bins provided.

Our house is family friendly but it is an “adventure house”, we do not recommend it for young children or those who love to climb railings as it is high up off the ground. Our daughter and her friends are 6 to 7 and it’s been great for them. You are welcome to bring younger kids but we don’t have anything to block stairways so keep a keen eye on them.

Contact us if you have extra kids and are more than 6. In many cases we can accommodate that.
